INDIANAPOLIS – The Junior Fuel Hockey Club and Indianapolis Youth Hockey Association (IYHA) announced on 1/22/2019 that the two organizations have agreed in principal to join forces to create one of the largest youth hockey programs in the Midwest. The move combines the established history and deep roots of the IYHA with the strong footprint and name recognition of the Junior Fuel.

“This is a huge step for youth hockey in our community, bringing over 1200 youth players under one united banner” said Kurt Detamore, President of IYHA. “By bringing both of these organizations together, we will be able to better serve the needs of all of the players and families in the area.”

“This partnership will accelerate the continued growth of youth hockey in Central Indiana,” explained Indy Fuel Owner and Chairman Jim Hallett. “Through working in concert, the Junior Fuel and IYHA will aspire to become one of the premier youth hockey programs, not just in the region but across the nation.”

“We now have a unique opportunity to focus all of our efforts on providing the best product for all Indianapolis area hockey families,” said Derek Edwardson, who will continue to serve as Executive Director of the expanded Indianapolis Youth Hockey Association that will now compete under the Junior Fuel banner. “Our goal is to create a culture of passion, growth and development for the next generation of lifelong players, coaches, officials and fans of the best game on earth.”

The IYHA, playing as the Junior Fuel, will provide comprehensive in-season and off-season programming in all of the local ice arenas for central Indiana boys and girls consistent with USA Hockey’s American Development Model from first time skaters and recreational hockey, through Nationally competitive high-performance AAA hockey.

Details for 2019 spring programming and 2019-2020 travel tryouts, including information about Learn to Play, House Hockey and Girls programs will be announced in the coming weeks. Please monitor your email and existing website for future updates.
