By admin, 04/12/17, 1:30PM EDT

The Indianapolis Racers U12 AAA and AA teams will be led by Derek Edwardson, Eric Olimb and Marc Zack.

Eric Olimb grew up in the hockey mad town of Warroad, Minnesota, and played high school hockey alongside NHL superstar T.J. Oshie. After his senior season, Coach Olimb came to the Circle City to play in the USHL for the Indiana Ice. His success as a high scoring defenseman led to a scholarship to play for division 1 University of Nebraska-Omaha. Eric led WCHA defensemen in scoring during his senior season, and played professionally for one year in Norway’s top league in 2011-2012.

After retiring from hockey, coach Olimb got married and moved back to Indianapolis. Since returning, he has coached various teams with the Indiana Jr Ice, and most recently worked with the Indy Strong 03’s and 04’s.

Marc Zack will join Derek and Eric on the ice and behind the bench for the U12’s during the 2017-2018 season.

Marc was the head coach for the Indy Strong 06 teams during the ‘16-’17 season and has done a tremendous job developing our 2006’s.

Coach Zack was born and raised in Indianapolis and was a member of the very first Racers travel hockey team that won numerous championships and participated in the legendary Quebec Peewee Tournament. He won an Indiana 5A state championship as a player at Park Tudor. Marc went on to earn Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Illinois in exercise physiology and biochemistry, and an M.S. in Immunology while serving as captain of the U of I division 1 club hockey team.

After graduation Marc moved to Chicago and coached the perennial powerhouse New Trier high school hockey team. Prior to joining the Strong, Marc served for four years as the IYHA Coach-in-Chief and mite hockey coordinator.

All three coaches will be on the ice to run practices for the U12 AAA and AA teams. Bench coaches (either Coach Olimb or Coach Zack) will be assigned a team immediately upon the conclusion of tryouts. Players selected for AAA and AA will know their assigned game coach prior to the deposit and player agreement deadline.
