The IYHA Jr Fuel 14U Black team were victorious in the 14U Cardinal Division and the 12U Black players were crowned champions of the 12U Brickyard Division.

The Indianapolis Youth Hockey Association, in partnership with the Indy Fuel Tank, Carmel Ice Skadium, Ice Barn, and Perry Park Ice Arena, were proud to host the 2025 edition of the Governor’s Cup state tournament presented by the Indiana State Hockey Association this past weekend.

All 15 IYHA Jr Fuel teams competed in the tournament that brings every youth hockey club in the state together, with teams in every age group from 8U to 14U. While many of our Jr Fuel teams found relative success over the course of the weekend, two teams will be reminded of their victories every time they see their banners hanging in Indy area rinks.

The 14U Black Jr Fuel team was a perfect 5-0 through the weekend’s event, topping the stiff competition of the Columbus Flames and South Bend Irish Rovers in pool play. They beat the Hammond Mohawks in a pair of games to advance to the final where they faced a familiar opponent from south of I-70. Ethan Johnson and Justin Orr combined for 16 points to lead their team’s offense through these five games (recording 8 points each), while at the other end of the ice Graham Goodrich kicked enough shots away in the championship game to lead the Jr Fuel in their 3-2 win in the 14U Cardinal division over the Columbus Flames. Congratulations, Coach Boone and the entire Jr Fuel 14U Black team!

Jr Fuel 12U Black were all smiles last Sunday after earning their championship banner also over the Columbus Flames in the 12U Brickyard division. After a 2-1 record in pool play, a resounding 7-0 win over the Fort Wayne PSM Force 2013’s proved enough to win the tie-breaker for their chance at glory. In a hard-fought, defensive battle, Jace Hinton buried a late goal on the powerplay to even the score and send the game to OT then a shootout. Noah Dugan’s lone shootout goal for the good guys was enough as Ian Gatton was tremendous in net and perfect in the shootout stopping all 3 would be goal-scorers. Well done, Coach Dillon and the whole Jr Fuel 12U black group!

Congratulations to our champions, and all IYHA Jr Fuel teams who competed in this year’s event. It was certainly a memorable tournament, and a great way to prepare for league playoffs! Stay tuned as the IYHA Jr Fuel Gold teams travel to Chicago this upcoming weekend for the CSDHL playoffs.
