Off Ice Training for On Ice Success
It’s that time of the year where the seasons are wrapping up and hockey players are ready for a break and some time away from the rink. After some healthy time away from organized and structured hockey, players should look to grow their off ice performance to help grow their on ice game. As kids get older, everyone naturally gets a little bigger, a little stronger, and a little faster, so why not find time to become a better overall athlete? Many of the exercises and drills can be done at home or at a park. Areas like strength, explosiveness, balance, agility, cardio, and overall coordination are extremely important in the game of hockey. There are many ways you can get innovative with your off ice workouts and enjoy them in some great weather with a group of friends. Whether it’s doing some agility and quick feet in the sand, running hills or stairs, or even swimming! Ultimately having the discipline to find time or a coach that will help put in the time with off ice training is the most important part. Any hockey player knows how important it is to be an overall good athlete and working on your athletic movements will help speed up the development!
Here are some drills to help players this off season:

Win some cash while supporting youth hockey in Central Indiana! At every Indy Fuel home game, the IYHA Junior Fuel will conduct a 50/50 raffle with fifty percent of the game’s ticket sales going to one lucky fan and the remainder going to support the IYHA Junior Fuel. 100% of the net proceeds from the raffle will be used to support efforts to grow recreational and developmental youth hockey throughout Central Indiana.
