Thank you to all the 317 Hockey League players, parents, and coaches for an incredible finish to another exciting season! A big round of applause to the Guenin Cup champions below.
(Registration for the 317HL 2022 - 2023 season will be coming out soon. An email will be sent once the registration has been released)
IYHA Jr Fuel is extremely fortunate to have parents volunteer each season to coach over 40 teams in the 317 Hockey League.
Being a coach takes a great deal of time, planning, enthusiasm, and passion. But a great coach makes fun the priority of the game...not personal desire to win. Additionally, a great coach treats each player as an individual and helps them to be the best they can be. They make an effort to improve their own coaching skills and learn how to be a better coach. Lastly, they are a role model for our youth and display sportsmanship on and off the ice.
After the Guenin Cup, we asked the 317 Hockey League families to nominate coaches that went above and beyond this season. The response was incredible! Thank you to all that took time to nominate and share stories about your coach and your season. Please read below to see the results.
'Coach Of The Year' goes to Jeanne Rues! Congratulations, Coach. We are grateful for your continued dedication in the program and are inspired by your actions on and off the ice. Take a look at what your players and families have shared about their season under your leadership.
"Coach Rues was massively devoted to our boys - individually and collectively. She was focused on their attitude and their skills - but mostly she demonstrated love and care and a sincere joy in the game at every turn. She was selfless and unafraid to challenge. I think she is the best coach our family has ever encountered. We were profoundly blessed by her dedication."
"This was our first year playing in the 317 league and Coach Rues was so great. She made each player feel so special and important."
"She gave them confidence, encouragement and unity. She was so great about not only teaching the fundamentals of hockey, but also sportsmanship, teamwork, and reasons why these things matter most in sports. So thankful we got to be a part of her team this year."
"Coach Rues was always helping her players do their best with positive comments throughout the game and encouraging words both on and off the ice. Having the players make individual reachable goals for each game and encouraging them in the locker room before and after the game while discussing their goals. She is an amazing Coach and human being."
"It was my first year and Rues was patient and really motivating. I felt like she cares a lot about every player."
"We would like to nominate Coach Jeanne Rues for Coach of the Year. Whether you are in the locker room, in a game, or at practice with Coach Rues you will quickly realize that she cares deeply about her players and team. She wants each individual to achieve their full potential and encourages them to set goals. Coach Rues is very open to feedback, and you know she is listening, because she acts on it. When leading a team, she has objectives for the team like always work to improve, carry yourself with a positive attitude, and always give your best effort. “OWN THE PUCK”! And most importantly, win or lose, have fun because you are playing hockey! Coach Rues treats sportsmanship similar to her philosophy on winning and losing. She sets the highest standards for sportsmanship because no matter what the call or what the outcome of a game Coach Rues seems to always provide the right words at the right time. We would like to thank Coach Rues for her lessons in leadership this season because, whether she realizes it or not, she is doing much more than making our kids better hockey players. She is making them better people. Coach Rues “OWN THE AWARD” because you have earned it. Thanks coach."
"Thoughtful commitment to player development all while making it fun"
"She preps, she plans, she prepares. She approaches every practice and skills session as if it were more important than the game. She asks the players to set personal goals before going out on the ice so that they can challenge themselves and improve. She identifies the areas of the game that are within their control, like attitude, and asks that they be responsible for their actions. As a parent, she expects and appreciates our parental involvement. She includes us in many communications and decision-making opportunities so that the team truly does feel more like a family. I am beyond grateful for her positive influence on my 12 U son (and my 10 U player!) who has witnessed her greatness and experienced her encouragement on and off the ice."
Congratulations to the following coaches for being nominated as Coach of the Year for your age division.
"He was positive with every single kid, including the opponents team! He even celebrated with the other teams kids when they scored for the first time. He made time for each kid."
"The ability of Coach Callahan to find a place on the ice for every player on the team and put them in a position to be successful was inspiring. He lit a spark of passion in each of these kids that transformed these 1st year hockey players into a hockey team"
"Jeremy is the role model for the players to fight until the end."
"My coach made the season so much fun. He made it so exciting for me to learn new skills and to also push hard on getting better. I made such good friends with my teammates."
"Brian first and foremost sets an example of how to behave as a hockey player: play hard, play fair, and have fun."
"Brian Lebeter goes above and beyond to help his team love the game of hockey, develop as a player, show good sportsmanship and respect themselves and others"
"Coach Lebeter's obvious passion for the sport and guiding young kids is exactly what every parent wants for their child's sports coach."
" All the players matured throughout the season and even when the team lost and the boys were crying or sad Chris would take the time to talk with all of them about the game and cheer them up."
"Throughout the season Chris had great communication with the team and parents. He was easily approachable as well. Chris maintained a positive supporting demeanor on the bench during game times and was very encouraging to all of his players throughout the season."
"Positive, energetic, uplifting, encouraging, focused and really cared about the kids’ development. Gave the kids multiple opportunities to learn the game and was always challenging than in positive ways!"
"Coach Barone made each practice fun and exciting while teaching new skills and drills. He gave all players equal playing time, gave positive constructive feedback, and never got discouraged or showed frustration. His positive attitude created a happy learning environment for each player on and off the ice. He recognized each player’s strengths and helped utilize them on the ice to benefit the team.
"He has helped my son with his confidence in the game. We appreciate his time and dedication to his craft!"
"Our team had 8 first years skaters(including his brother Eli). Carson was at just about every practice and game. He worked with the kids during drills and worked with kids one on one. He also set up a few stick and pucks for kids to join if they could. He stepped up during tryouts to help draft teams and worked with the other on our team to come up with plays and encouraged the kids to never give up when they lost. He always gave them positive feedback and positive criticism on they could make their game even better."
