IYHA could not exist without the dedication and hard work of its volunteer coaches.

Our coaches are truly the life blood of our organization. Without their leadership and expertise, IYHA would cease to exist. They provide role models, promote sportsmanship, develop hockey skills, and build teams in a fun environment.  If you love hockey and working with kids, consider volunteering your time with our amazing hockey players in a rewarding environment.

Our volunteer coaches have a unique opportunity to help young players learn the many life skills that come from playing on a team, as well as encourage their participation in an activity that they can enjoy for a lifetime. Chances are you might remember a childhood coach or two that taught you about the great game of ice hockey. Now it’s your chance to “give back."

IYHA is always looking for qualified volunteer coaches for our youth hockey season for both House League teams and our Racers (Select/All Star teams). Regardless of your hockey experience, there are head and assistant coaching positions available at all age levels from 4-14 years old.

Our season runs approximately from the start of October to the middle of March. There are House League practices from 1-2 nights a week depending on age level, with Racers practices providing one more hour of ice a week. House League teams have one game a week on Saturday mornings, between the hours of 6:45am-1:00pm, while Racers teams compete more frequently in tournaments and on Sundays as well.

Whether you have a child in IYHA or not, coaching youth hockey players at IYHA can be an extremely rewarding experience. IYHA does recognize that your time is valuable. If you are willing to volunteer your time and you do not have a child in the program, IYHA will reimburse you up to $50 in costs to complete your background screening, USA Hockey Registration and Coaching Education Program.

All final decisions on coaches are subject to IYHA Board of Directors approval, and all coaches must follow the published IYHA and USA hockey code of conduct. If you need additional information, contact Racers Director Chris Banguis (chrisbanguis@gmail.com), or Wendy Esterline (iyhamail@iyha.com).
