The Indy Strong and the IYHA partnered with the Carmel Ice Skadium Sunday afternoon to host the first session of a USA Hockey goaltending education series featuring USA Hockey National Youth Goaltending Manager Phil Osaer.

USA Hockey’s National Youth Goaltending Manager, Phil Osaer came to Indy to speak to the goalies, parents and coaches of the IYHA and Strong and run an on ice session for all its goalies. The day was an introductory session in a series designed to educate youth goaltenders and coaches about how to best utilize on and off ice practice time for maximum development.

The day started with a presentation on tips and techniques to help all coaches, regardless of position or playing background, make sure that their goalies get quality repetitions and fundamental skill training during every practice.

In coordination with our own Goalie Development Coordinator Willie Mitchell, Coach Osaer laid out a long term development plan for each age group and skill level for the Strong, the IYHA and its coaches to implement.

The Indy Strong and the IYHA are working together to make elite goaltender development a priority. With the hiring of Coach Mitchell and the partnership with Phil Osaer and USA Hockey, our coaches will be properly educated on goalie development and our goalies will be working one on one with world class goalie coaches in season and off.

What a sweaty, hard-working group of netminders!
