Bantam Racers and Peewee Racers Team 2 Coaches Announced

IYHA would like to announce their Racers 2 team head coaches. 

Mark “Barney” Barnhart will coach the Bantam 2 team. Beginning in 1988, he has coached at every level of youth hockey (including mini mite, mite, squirt, peewee and bantam) as well as the high school and college (ACHA) levels.  He has served as a coach with IYHA since 2012.

Last season Barney served as head coach for the IYHA Peewee Americans house team that posted a 22-1-1 record enroute to a Guenin Cup and City Interleague Championship. He also served as an assistant coach on both the Squirt 1 and Peewee 2 Racers teams, helping the Squirt 1 team to two tournament championships and a regular season Buckeye League Championship, and the Peewee 2 team to a Buckeye League end-of-season tournament championship and South Bend Irish Cup Championship.

A Level 4 USAHockey certified coach, Barney has two sons who play with IYHA. He continues to play men’s league hockey at the Carmel Ice Skadium.

Wendy Esterline has been named the head coach for Peewee team 2. She has been coaching at IYHA since 2011, including head coach at the mini mite, mite and squirt levels. Last season, she assisted on the squirt Flyers IYHA house team, winning the Guenin Cup championship. The past two seasons, she has assisted and been lead defensive coach for the Squirt 1 Racers teams. 

Wendy's collegiate career included being named the captain of the Bowling Green State University women's ice hockey team from 1997 to 2000, and vice president of the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association. She has been the administrator/executive director at IYHA since 2012.  

A Level 4 USAHockey certified coach, Wendy has a son and a daughter who play with IYHA. She continues to plays men’s league hockey at the Carmel Ice Skadium.
