Hello IYHA families!

IYHA Coach Mark “Barney” Barnhart is a candidate this year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2015 Man of the Year campaign. He is asking for your support in his efforts to help LLS in its mission to find a cure for blood cancers while also assisting those patients and families currently suffering from those diseases.

In September 2010, former IYHA player and Carmel Greyhound Tom McCord was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). At the age of 30, he found himself fighting for his life while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments and ultimately, a stem cell transplant. Tom’s story had a happy ending. He was lucky that a donor could be found and today he is back on the ice playing hockey! But not everyone is so lucky.

Barney is running for Man of the Year for Tom and all those affected by cancer, especially three-and-a-half year old Sophie Claxton (pictured). She is the LLS Girl of the Year.

“When I started this campaign, someone told me that a campaign against Cancer is simply a drop in the bucket,” Barney said. “I took that as my challenge that every drop counts, whether that’s $1 at a time or $1000.  We can make a difference together.”

Every dollar raised for Barney’s campaign is a vote of confidence for Barney, for Sophie, and a vote to cure cancer. He has 7 weeks until May 7 to reach his goal of $125,000, with 100% of the money raised supporting LLS and its mission.

Coach Barney needs your help reaching his goal. You can visit his personal fundraising page to learn more and to help make a difference. AND if you donate $10 or more by Sunday, March 29, you can stop in the IYHA office to pick up your very own authentic autographed NHL player trading card (randomly selected)! Email Wendy at iyhamail@iyha.com to set up a time to pick up your card!

Remember, Every Drop Counts!
