Important information about Squirts vs Girls Games

Dear Squirt Parent,

IYHA is always trying to develop the best youth hockey programs in Indiana. In keeping with this mission we have been putting a lot of energy into developing one of the only Girls Hockey programs in the state. As a reward of this effort, we are excited that we have approximately 51 girls playing hockey in our IYHA Girls program.

How does this affect our coed Squirt players? Since there are no other girl’s teams to play, IYHA has included two teams of girls as Squirt teams in both the Tournament and House regular season schedules.

Our girls’ coaches have assessed the competition level of these girls and have divided them into Mites or Squirt teams based on several factors including, their experience, ability and size. Consequently, the Squirt Girls’ team consists of several age groups mostly squirt and pee wee, but also including a few Bantam age girls. Many of these girls are beginning level players, regardless of their age or size.

IYHA wants to be clear that we are not only trying to foster a like-competition-level for the Squirt Girls, but also want to create a safe environment for ALL who play. If you, as a parent, feel it is in your player's best interest to not play against this team which could include some older, bigger girls, then you may hold your player out of these games.  All we ask is that you let your coach know ahead of time so he can make the necessary line-up adjustments.

We are very excited that IYHA can offer quality programs to all who are interested.  Thank you for your commitment to IYHA and excellence in youth hockey in Indiana.  We look forward to another exciting year of hockey at the rink!

Sincerely,

IYHA Board of Directors
