Over the years, the Indianapolis Youth Hockey Association has had a number of inquiries as to the availability of a hockey program for 14-17-year-old players who are not playing high school hockey. In order to meet this need, IYHA is offering a new midget hockey program this year open to all players within this age group regardless of skill level. The principal goal of the program is to offer high school-aged players the opportunity to continue to play hockey in a fun environment and to continue to develop and maintain the great friendships formed through their years of playing hockey. 

 

Refereed games (and some limited practice) will take place on Monday nights at 8:30pm at The Arctic Zone. Tuesday nights at 9:45pm. While we recognize this is late, it will give the players the opportunity to do homework and participate in other activities before playing hockey. Depending on the success of the program, we may be able to procure earlier ice times for future sessions. 

 

Long-time IYHA coaches Steve Krohne and Jason Pearson will oversee the program. Their goal will be to foster a fun atmosphere. Ultimately, they hope to have the players involved in the management and direction of the program, including potentially the selection of teams at the beginning of each session. As this league is purely recreational, checking will not be allowed. However, we have received interest from a variety of players and anticipate the same type of fast-paced, fun hockey that has become the norm in IYHA’s house program.
